Bachelor of Arts in Christian Counseling: Spiritual Formation and Mentoring

At Somerset Christian College , we see counseling and spiritual formation not as separate disciplines but as vital dimensions of the same process. Christian Counseling at its core is transformation of the heart and restoration of the soul. The purpose of Christian Counseling is to help students understand their own areas of weakness and need as vital resources for service and impact in others lives.

The Christian Counseling Concentration emphasizes three main things:

• Acquiring the knowledge or the principles that are foundational to counseling
  
• Growing in relationships with God and others for greater effectiveness with helping others
  
• Cultivating basic strategies and skill-sets necessary to do counseling in a variety of contexts.

Our program is designed to provide you with the basic foundations for any kind of counseling, spiritual formation or mentoring ministry. You may choose to build on this foundation with further education and/or training specific to an area in which you choose to specialize, such as pursuing a Masters Degree allowing you to become a State Licensed Professional Counselor. Upon successful completion of this program you will find yourself prepared to either pursue further education or begin a lay helping ministry in a variety of settings.
