The Upward Call connects us to the Larger Story of God and the more transcendent aspects of our mission and vision, such as “Christ-centered, faithful to evangelical Christianity, and Grounded on God’s Word.” It is a panoramic view of the story God tells throughout history and in our world today.



The Inward Call: The Life of the Heart

The Inward Call attends to the Life of the Heart. From SCC’s mission and vision statements, we know that the Inward Call involves innovative programs that are designed to “foster intellectual and character development” and “nurture relationships with God and others.” Within this context of whole-hearted relational growth, we invite students to understand their personal stories, identities, calling and roles in the Larger Story.

The Outward Call: The Way of Grace
and Freedom
[Engaging Culture * Serving Christ with Passion]

When we become more fully aware of our place in the Story, we can move more completely into the lives of others with grace and freedom, our Outward Call. This dimension or path in our mission and vision statements comes from our call to be a college that “engages culture and serves Christ with passion.” Understanding the world around us, relating to our neighbors, co-workers, family and ultimately fighting to set other hearts free, comes from a greater connection to the Upward Call and a deeper involvement with the Inward Call.
